Job summary

North Alabama Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) for its Float Pool on a PRN basis. The role features 12-hour shifts (6:45am-7:15pm) and self-scheduling with rotating holiday coverage, offering hands-on clinical exposure across hospital units.

Candidates support patient care under RN supervision, perform ADL assistance, monitor vitals, and document activities. High school diploma and BLS are required; nursing student enrollment is encouraged.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
• PCA/DCA, SRNA, or EMT experience preferred but not required.
• Current BLS certification, can be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs and intake/output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Maintains clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas.
• Manages the tech desk and supports nursing/physician staff and overall department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned; participates in performance improvement and required education.
