Job summary

Shriners Children’s Hospital is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant for on-site support in Lexington, KY. The MA will handle clinical, clerical, and technical duties, including patient rooming, documentation during visits, minor procedures, and telehealth support as needed.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant Certification required (CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA or state equivalent).
• BLS certification required within 30–90 days of hire.
• Spanish proficiency preferred.
• Familiarity with EMR systems, HIPAA, infection control and patient safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients from waiting room to exam rooms and verify DOB and appropriate attire.
• Obtain vitals (height, weight, temperature, pulse, BP) and collect basic medical history.
• Draw blood and assist with minor procedures as needed.
• Monitor Epic DAR and coordinate with front desk, radiology and other teams for timely handoffs.
• Direct physicians and APPs to patient rooms based on DAR status.
• Prepare exam rooms and stock supplies; assist with cast room setup and cleaning if needed.

This role requires strong communication skills, clinical competence, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to ensure an optimal care experience for patients and families. **Key Responsibilities** * Escort patients from waiting room(s) to exam room(s), confirming date of birth and ensuring patients are in the proper attire required for their visit* At relevant sites, MAs will walk patients to radiology or POPs rooms/waiting areas, in addition to rooming for clinic* Obtain patient vitals (height, weight, temperature, pulse, BP, etc.), draw blood, and conduct basic medical history (including chief complaint, medication history, social history, and family history)* Monitor Epic DAR and communicate with all relevant teams (front desk, radiology, POPs, etc.) to ensure timely rooming and patient handoffs* Direct physicians and APPs to patient rooms based on Epic DAR status* Prepare exam rooms daily; stock and maintain supplies and equipment* At relevant sites, support cast room setup, cleaning, and supply management **Required Qualifications** * Medical Assistant Certification* Acceptable certifications include, but are not limited to: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA Required in states where certification is mandated by law or regulation.
