Job summary

Shriner's Children’s is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support clinic operations, room patients, take vitals, and assist with Telehealth. The role requires strong communication, clinical competence, and the ability to work independently and with teams to ensure a high-quality, patient-centered experience for children and families.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification from a nationally recognized association.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Two years' pediatric care experience preferred.
  • Associate degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
  • EMR experience (Epic) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients from waiting room to exam room, verify DOB and attire.
  • Obtain vitals (height, weight, temp, pulse, BP) and collect medical history.
  • Monitor patient condition and coordinate with front desk, radiology, and labs as needed.
  • Input patient data into Epic and document encounter details.
  • Prepare exam rooms daily; stock and maintain supplies and equipment.
  • Assist Telehealth intake and set up rooms and equipment.
  • Support cast room setup, cleaning, and equipment troubleshooting.

This role requires strong communication skills, clinical competence, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to ensure an optimal care experience for patients and families.Key Responsibilities:Escort patients from waiting room(s) to exam room(s), confirming date of birth and ensuring patients are in the proper attire required for their visitAt relevant sites, MAs will walk patients to radiology or POPs rooms/waiting areas, in addition to rooming for clinicObtain patient vitals (height, weight, temperature, pulse, BP, etc.), draw blood, and conduct basic medical history (including chief complaint, medication history, social history, and family history)Monitor and report patient condition throughout their visitEnsure infection prevention protocols are followedConduct Telehealth intake tasks – document vitals, medical history, and encounter detailsEscort patients to check out and update rooming status in EpicMonitor Epic DAR and communicate with all relevant teams (front desk, radiology, POPs, etc.) to ensure timely rooming and patient handoffsDirect physicians and APPs to patient rooms based on Epic DAR statusCommunicate effectively with patients, families, and other staffProvide patients with updates on delays, next steps, and answer non-clinical questionsAssist in patient education regarding casting care, surgical prep, and discharge instructionsMaintain patient confidentialityPrepare exam rooms daily; stock and maintain supplies and equipmentAt relevant sites, support cast room setup, cleaning, and supply managementTroubleshoot clinical equipment and coordinate service as neededParticipate in outreach clinics and support continuity of care initiativesPrepare and manage Telehealth rooms and equipmentAccurately input patient data (vitals, medications, allergies, immunizations, and intake notes) into EpicCompile and share departure summaries with patientsSupport follow-up scheduling and direct patientsPerform clerical duties including copying, faxing, scanning, and other correspondence handlingClean exam rooms between patientsSupport Physician Clinic order entry process according to established SCMG guidelines and workflowsMaintain current CMA and Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationsAttend required meetings, in-services, and complete ongoing education, and competency trainingParticipate in department performance improvement and safety trainingRequired Qualifications:High School Diploma / GEDMedical Assistant Certification from a nationally recognized association (NHA, AMA, NCRMA, NAHP)Basic Life Support (BLS)Preferred Qualifications:Associate degree - Medical AssistantRMA, CCMA, NCMATwo years' experience as a Medical AssistantTwo years' pediatric care experienceEMR system experienceCompensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
