Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician to support base telecom operations on Whidbey Island, WA. The role includes maintaining PBX switches, performing troubleshooting, software updates, and hardware installations, with weekly travel to remote locations.

Ideal candidates hold an associate degree or higher in IT/Cybersecurity, 2 years of relevant DoD experience, and IAT Level II with Security+. Clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

  • COMPTIA Security+ certification required.
  • Certification reimbursement offered after 30 days of employment.
  • Preferred extra certifications: ACSS, Nortel Meridian, CCNA, RHCSA, MCSA.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain government-owned PBX telephony switches (e.g., Nortel Meridian Option 81C).
  • Troubleshooting and repair of switch issues.
  • Software updates and patching for PBX systems.
  • Installation and configuration of switch hardware.
  • Daily operation monitoring and support for voicemail and IPE.

Job description

Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician (PSTS-2026-):

Bowhead seeks to network with a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician for a future or upcoming tasking to provide Base Telecom Support at the Whidbey Island, WA. The Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Technician effort will provide telecommunications operations and maintenance (O&M). This position will require both in office and infield experience and duties.


On job and verification training is offered for all full time Bowhead employees after 30 days of employment.


Job duties include but are not limited to:


  • Operate and maintain government-owned telephony switches (PBX), including:

    • Nortel Meridian Option 81C



  • Perform:

    • Troubleshooting and repair of switch issues

    • Software updates and patching

    • Installation and configuration of switch hardware

    • Daily operation monitoring

    • Support for voicemail systems and IPE (Remote Intelligent Peripheral Equipment)



  • Utilize company vehicle to travel to remote locations weekly.

  • Ensure switch systems remain fully operational and compliant with DoD/Navy standards.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Education


  • Associate’s degree or higher in IT or Cybersecurity (preferred)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.


Years of experience


  • 2 years of relevant experience required.

  • 5 years relevant experience is preferred.

  • Prior experience within DoD networks highly preferred.


Required skills or certifications


  • IAT Level II (per DoD 8570.01-M)

  • COMPTIA Security+

    • Certification reimbursement will be offered after 30 days of employment

  • Avaya Certified Support Specialist (ACSS) or equivalent

  • Nortel Meridian System Administration or equivalent

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or equivalent


Key System experience sought:


  • Mitel

  • Panasonic

  • NEC



  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts


Targeted pay range is $36.44/hr- 45.00/hr based on interview and experience.


Physical Demands:


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically


SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
