The ideal candidate has 7+ years in privacy or tech law, strong drafting, research, and training material development skills, and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical playbooks for the team.

Responsibilities

• Support first-pass review of routine data processing agreements and AI vendor contracts
• Manage routine data privacy requests (data deletion, impact assessments, data subject requests)
• Conduct legal research on DPO requirements, training obligations, AI governance
• Draft and update playbooks, checklists, trackers, and internal guidance materials; assist with trainings and onboarding
• Maintain trackers, status updates, and documentation for privacy and AI projects
• Monitor regulatory developments and prepare concise summaries for counsel
• Support internal knowledge resources and self-service materials

Legal.io is working with a leading tech company seeking an experienced Privacy Counsel for a 3 month contract (with potential to extend / convert).

Scope of Work

Title: Privacy Counsel

Experience: 7+ Years

Location: Hybrid (Wilmington, MA, USA)

Duration: 3 Months (potential to extend / convert)

Pay Rate: $100 - $120 / hr ($200,000 - $240,000 annualized)

Seeking a Privacy Counsel to support the Privacy and AI legal team on day-to-day legal tasks, operational projects, and foundational governance work. The role is intended for a junior to early mid-level attorney who can help with routine contract review, legal research, training materials, and playbook development, while working closely with counsel on escalation points and higher-risk issues. The position will help expand the team’s capacity in a practical, hands-on way as demand grows across privacy, data governance, and AI-related matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Support first-pass review of routine data processing agreements and AI vendor contracts using team guidance and playbooks
• Manage routine data privacy requests, including data deletion, review impact assessment forms, and oversee data subject requests.
• Conduct legal research on DPO requirements, training obligations, and developing AI and privacy regulations
• Help draft and update playbooks, checklists, clause trackers, and internal guidance materials- Assist with creation of staff trainings, onboarding materials, and presentation content on privacy and AI governance topics
• Maintain trackers, status updates, and supporting documentation for privacy and AI legal projects
• Monitor selected legal and regulatory developments and prepare concise summaries for counsel review
• Support internal knowledge resources, including FAQs, training content, and self-service materials

Must Have Skills

• Contract Review Experience: Ability to review routine agreements carefully and spot issues for escalation
• Legal Research: Strong research and synthesis skills across privacy, technology, or regulatory topics
• Drafting: Clear, practical writing for internal guidance, summaries, and training materials- Organization and Follow-Through: Ability to manage trackers, documentation, and multiple assignments reliably
• Judgment: Good instincts about when to elevate questions or higher-risk issues to counsel
• Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with legal and cross-functional stakeholders

Preferred Education and Experience

• Law degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant legal experience
• Experience in privacy, commercial contracts, technology law, or in-house legal support
• Familiarity with data protection, AI governance, or regulatory research is helpful
• Experience preparing internal guidance, playbooks, or training materials anddeveloping AI-assisted workflows
