Job summary

Michigan Department of Corrections seeks a Deputy Warden for the Ionia Correctional Facility (ICF) to oversee operations, budget, and security programs. The role requires coordination with Health Services and Mental Health to maintain prisoner well-being and ensure compliant operations.

The Deputy Warden will manage security classifications, respond to grievances, maintain labor relations, and serve as on-call administrator as needed.

Qualifications

• Four years of professional experience in the Department of Corrections, including two years at P11 or one year at 12.
• Or four years as an Assistant Resident Unit Supervisor 11; or two years as a Corrections Shift Supervisor 13.
• Education alternative: high school plus three years of experience as Corrections Shift Supervisor 13 or Security Inspector 13.
• Public Act 140 forbids hiring individuals with felony convictions or pending charges.
• All employees must report potential conflicts of interest.

Responsibilities

• Develops and oversees budgets for assigned areas of control.
• Revises and enforces security and emergency/disaster response procedures.
• Oversees rounds, inspections of buildings, grounds, and safety systems.
• Manages prisoner grievances and litigation handling.
• Maintains labor/management relationships per bargaining contracts.
• Works with Health Services and Mental Health to ensure well-being.
• Acts as on-call administrator as assigned.
