Job summary

The Michigan Department of Corrections seeks a Deputy Warden of operations at the Ionia Correctional Facility. The role acts as the Warden’s surrogate, oversees budgets and strategic priorities, directs security programs, enforces procedures for safety and disaster response, and ensures humane treatment and proper prisoner classification in line with rules and contracts.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in any major.
Four years of professional experience in the Department of Corrections, including two years equivalent to the P11 level or one year equivalent to the 12 level; or four years as an Assistant Resident Unit Supervisor 11; or two years as a Corrections Shift Supervisor 13 or Corrections Security Inspector 13.
Education level may be substituted with high school and three years of related experience instead of the above.

Responsibilities

Develops and oversees budgets for assigned areas of control.
Revises and enforces procedures for security and emergency/disaster preparedness.
Assures humane treatment and proper prisoner classification as per rules and contracts.
Maintains labor/management relations and enforces employee work rules.
Collaborates with Health Services and Mental Health to ensure well-being of prisoners.
