Job summary

Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a Food Services Shift Supervisor at Earnest C. Brooks Correctional Facility to direct a shift's food service activities. You will oversee meal preparation and serving for general population, religious, and therapeutic diets, and supervise cooks and prisoner workers.

Role requires training staff, ensuring compliance with nutrition and safety standards, and working with custody staff to uphold facility safety and security.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience overseeing quantity cooking and food preparation tasks, including three years as Cook E6 or two years as Cook 7.
• Associate's degree in dietetics, food services management, hotel/restaurant/institution management, or human nutrition; plus two years supervising cooking tasks may substitute for experience.
• Bachelor's degree in dietetics, food services management, hotel/restaurant/institution management, or human nutrition; no prior experience may substitute for the experience requirement.

Responsibilities

• Direct the work of subordinate staff and prisoner workers during a shift in food service operations.
• Oversee preparation and serving of three meals daily, including general population, religious, and therapeutic diets.
• Train prisoner workers and supervise cooks in quantity food service and serving.
• Ensure adherence to policy directives, state-wide menu, operating procedures, nutritional standards, and safe food handling.
• Collaborate with custody staff to maintain safety and security within the correctional facility.
