Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Corrections seeks a Corrections Food Service Instructor to guide inmate workers in a structured kitchen, teach safe procedures, and promote rehabilitation.

You will lead food preparation, sanitation, recipe and supply management, and assign tasks while maintaining custody and safety. The full-time schedule runs 11:00 AM–7:00 PM or 4:30 PM–12:30 AM with rotating days off; telework is not available.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Food Preparation Instruction: Guide inmates in preparing, producing, and serving meals in a safe and organized manner
• Sanitation Oversight: Ensure food areas, tools, and equipment meet safety and cleanliness standards
• Recipe and Supply Management: Adjust recipes based on census data and maintain proper storage and rotation of supplies
• Work Assignment Planning: Assign tasks to inmate workers and review their performance
• Custody and Control: Maintain order and accountability of inmates during all work activities
