Are you ready to build skills, encourage growth, and support daily operations as a Corrections Food Service Instructor with the Department of Corrections? This position gives you the chance to lead inmate workers in meaningful kitchen tasks at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Waymart. This position supports SCI Waymart by leading inmate workers in food service production and ensuring safe, sanitary kitchen operations. The role helps maintain consistent meal preparation and reinforces proper training and supervision. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Food Preparation Training:Instruct inmates in preparing, cooking, baking, and serving food according to standards
• Safety and Sanitation:Inspect equipment and work areas, adjust recipes based on census data, and ensure proper storage procedures
• Inventory Oversight:Requisition, receive, and store food items, and follow first-in, first-out practices
• Work Assignment Planning:Review inmate duties, complete performance evaluations, and maintain accurate records
• Inmate Supervision:Maintain care, custody, and control of inmates during all food service operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours: Shifts may include 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with rotating days off. Your schedule will be determined.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
