Parsons School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks Student Assistants in the Printmaking and Book Arts Studios within the Making Center. The Making Center is a collection of more than 70,000 sq. ft.

of labs, shops, studios, and open workspaces that provide curricular support and foster interdisciplinary collaboration. On‑campus position offering an hourly rate of $17, with responsibilities including tool checkout, space maintenance, and front‑line service to students and faculty.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and time‑management abilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate clearly with users.
• Adaptable and reliable, with the capacity to work independently or with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
• Physical ability to lift up to 25lbs and work non‑traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Experience or interest in printmaking and book arts preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist students and faculty with checkout of tools/equipment, reservations, and equipment requests.
• Monitor and maintain making spaces, ensuring they are clean, organized, and ready for use.
• Support Managers and Technicians with daily processes, projects, and maintenance tasks.
• Provide high‑level customer service, greeting visitors, answering phone calls, and communicating department services, policies, and procedures.
• Help with shop upkeep, organization, and repair of machinery, including refilling and mixing studio chemistry and assisting with printing press reservations.
• Perform basic reception duties such as greeting visitors and scheduling open studio participation.
• Assist students with Open Studio check‑in/out, tool check‑out, and print shop reservations.
• Complete assignments and special projects as assigned and participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
