Job summary

Parsons School for Design in The New School system seeks Student Assistants for the MFA Textile and MFA FDS departments within the Making Center. The Making Center offers 70,000+ sq ft of labs, shops, studios, and spaces to support making and collaboration.

The student assistant will be personable, proactive, and detail-oriented, helping with tool checkout, monitoring spaces, and assisting staff with daily tasks, while learning new skills as needed.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
• Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisor.
• Adaptable when schedule changes; able to work with students, faculty and staff.
• Familiarity with Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets).
• Capacity to lift items up to 25 lbs and work non-traditional hours.

Responsibilities

• Assist students and faculty with reservations and equipment requests.
• Check out tools/equipment and monitor making spaces.
• Support daily processes and projects with Managers and Technicians.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of labs and spaces.
• Provide information about department services, policies, and procedures.
