Job summary

The New School’s Parsons School for Design, Making Center, seeks Student Assistants to support shop operations across a network of labs and studios. You will help students and faculty with tool checkout, monitor spaces, and keep facilities clean and orderly.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisor and communicate clearly with Making Center users.
• Adaptable and consistent when notifying the supervisor of schedule changes.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work without close supervision or alone.
• Familiarity with Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
• Physical ability to lift items.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours such as evenings and weekends.
• Ability to handle objects weighing up to 25 lbs and on occasion may be expected to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Report for shift on time and assist Making Center Staff with reviewing priority of tasks in the shop including: upkeep, organization, and maintenance.
• Work in WebCheckout providing students appropriate tools for their projects as well as process materials for the store.
• Proper opening and closing of the shops, as assigned by Making Center Staff, including opening the space and unlocking resources and turning on / logging into computers.
