General Description

This position operates, maintains, and facilitates service on (often through outside vendors) the printing equipment housed in the College’s Print Shop; interacts with a storefront system to help customers place and process orders; fulfills those orders by receiving files, selecting paper or other materials, printing these orders, checking quality, and ensuring a timely and courteous delivery or pickup; processes orders from faculty, staff, and students, including everything from business cards to brochures, posters and flyers to packets and textbooks, and including some “high quality” content like custom enrollment mailers, large-format signage and banners, and more; and participates as part of a robust creative/strategic marketing team.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS : The work is medium work which requires the person in this position to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: This position requires the person to frequently move about the OCCC campuses. This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, faculty, staff, students, vendors and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations. This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office equipment and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position. This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists. This position requires the person to judge, observe, and assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned, or to make general observations. Work is performed in an indoor setting. Work is performed during a scheduled shift (day, afternoon, evening) during the week or other variations to allow for fulfilling print orders in a timely fashion.

Job Duties

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

  • Receive, process and log print and work orders via Marketing or Store Front requests.
  • Assess incoming orders for adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Exercise proper time utilization and prioritize work according to required production and installation deadlines.
  • Ability to set up and operate high-speed color copiers and wide format production printers, laminators, digital cutting systems and wide format finishing equipment.
  • Ability to set up, operate and maintain large format flatbed printers and cutter routers, including ADA compliant braille signage.
  • Ability to provide wide format installation services on a variety of surfaces including but not limited to; wall graphics, floor graphics, and window graphics, in addition to having a thorough knowledge of the tools necessary to perform said services.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills including the ability to advise customers on print needs and effectively work with designers to find creative solutions to provide products that satisfy requirements established by the customer and designer and satisfactorily resolve customer complaints.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to operate and maintain a wide range of reprographics equipment and systems (e.g. pre-press equipment/software, high speed copiers, digital presses, etc.), as well as standard bindery equipment (e.g. cutter, folder, collator, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic software and the ability to manipulate and translate media, as well as process electronic files using pre-press software.
  • Ability to manipulate and set up files and equipment in the production of a wide range of specialized material and media such as posters, banners, magnets, signs, awards, name badges, etc.
  • Familiarity with paper stock and other materials used in printing.
  • Install and tear down step and repeats, pop-up banners, window and wall decals.
  • Administer and maintain the highest possible quality standards through continual screening of print and finishing output for overall accuracy to requested specifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, perform, coordinate and schedule equipment, tool and shop maintenance within the team and external service providers for proper upkeep and maximum operational uptime.
  • Develop and adhere to a rigorous safety standard for yourself and others on work duties, addressing or removing risk except possible.
  • Deliver orders on and off campus.
  • Drive College vehicles when and where necessary.
  • Inform Senior Print Technician and Print Operations Manager of need for supplies and equipment, as well as of shop readiness.
  • Ability to provide lead work direction to other staff and students.
  • Gather delivered materials from Loading Dock/Facilities and restock the shop, including occasionally moving supply pallets weighing ~1000lb or more with a manual pallet jack and multiple team members.
