General Description: The Student Computer Support Technician Assistant provides assistance to the Computer Support Technicians in resolving problems and providing technical support for approved computer software and hardware. In addition, the Student Computer Support Technician Assistant also provides assistance to Audio Visual Services Technicians in resolving problems and providing technical support for approved audio-visual hardware and the setup of audio-video equipment.

Reports To: None

Requirements: Must be a current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours or more for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester. OR Must be a current OCCC student with a federal work study award. AND One (1) year experience using and maintaining Windows OS.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be able to work with others as a team.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  • GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium work: Occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Frequently move about the various OCCC campuses; frequently communicate with and listen to faculty, staff, students, and others to perform the essential functions; frequently remain in a standing and stationary position; frequently operate a computer, other office machinery, and mobile devices; frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists; frequently position self to grasp, move, lift, push, pull, work on, or operate and/or inspect equipment; frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Judge, observe and assess accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations; have visual discernment of color and shapes.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Essential functions performed in an indoor, office, classroom, theater, or computer storage room setting; perform essential functions in close quarters, small enclosed rooms, and narrow aisles or passageways.
Preferred Qualifications

Currently enrolled in OCCC’s Computer Science program.

  • Prepare computers for deployment including software and hardware installation.
  • Perform installation and setup of computers and audio-visual equipment and technology for use by students and employees.
  • Provide routine and emergency maintenance of desktop and audio-visual technology.
  • Serve as on call computer and audio-visual support technician.
  • Maintain accurate service records and document work performed using ticketing system.
  • Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.
  • Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
  • Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
  • Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.
  • Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
