Job summary

Formlabs is seeking a Print Optimization Intern on the SLA Materials Team in Somerville, MA for Summer 2027. This onsite internship offers hands-on experience with 3D printing, materials testing, and experimental design.

You will develop material settings, run experiments, and learn measurement techniques, with a collaborative team and unlimited 3D prints. Strong organization, communication, and data analysis skills are valued, along with interest in the 3D printing industry and CAD familiarity.

Qualifications

• Experience with data analysis and experimental design.
• Familiarity with SOPs/protocols and 3D printing.
• Basic programming in Python and/or MATLAB is a plus.
• CAD modeling with SolidWorks/OpenSCAD/Onshape is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Develop and test materials settings for peak performance (speed, surface quality, supports).
• Evaluate current material setting performance to identify areas for improvement.
• Design and execute experiments to inform improvements in software or hardware.
• Learn and operate high-accuracy measurement equipment to validate projects.

Internship Term:Summer 2027 (May/June - August)Commitment: Full-time Location: Onsite in Somerville, MA

The job:

• Develop and test materials settings for peak performance (speed, surface quality, supports, etc)
• Evaluate current material setting performance to identify areas for improvement
• Design and execute experiments, using results to inform and develop improvements in software or hardware
• Learn and operate high accuracy measurement equipment to validate your projects

You:

• Well-organized, good time management, and excellent attention to detail
• Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Communicate test results effectively and in a timely manner
• Experience with data analysis
• Experience with experimental design
• Experience working with protocols/SOPs
• Enthusiastic and interested in 3D printing

Bonus Skills:

• Basic understanding programming and scientific computing, ideally Python and/or Matlab
• Familiar with mechanical design and CAD modeling (Solidworks/OpenScad/Onshape a plus)

Compensation

Interns at Formlabs are paid on a bi-weekly pay schedule. The pay range for this role will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization. This is a salaried role, so you will always be paid based on the assumed 40 hours per week as a full-time intern. This position does not offer housing or relocation assistance.

The weekly pay range for this role is:

$1,425 - $1,750 USD
