Job summary

Formlabs in Somerville, MA, offers a Summer 2027 Materials Intern position in our materials development lab. You will work on a PhD-level R&D project, developing and testing innovative materials that push the boundaries of 3D printing.

We welcome candidates passionate about material science or chemistry, with wet-lab experience and exposure to polymers; CAD (SolidWorks) and Python basics are a plus. This is a salaried internship with bi-weekly pay and onsite supports.

Materials development presents one of the greatest opportunities in 3D printing. As a Materials intern, you’ll work side‑by‑side in the lab with the rest of our Materials team. You’ll get an opportunity to constantly develop, formulate, and test materials that we’ve never printed with before – and every experiment plays a big role in how we solve new challenges in 3D printing.

The Job:

• Work on a PhD-level R&D project in our materials development lab

You:

• Passionate about material science or chemistry
• Comfortable working in a wet lab environment
• Have completed research or coursework with polymers
• Comfortable working with CAD programs (ie SolidWorks)
• Basic computer programming (Python)
• Background in organic chemistry or plastic engineering

Compensation

Interns at Formlabs are paid on a bi-weekly pay schedule. The pay range for this role will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization. This is a salaried role, so you will always be paid based on the assumed 40 hours per week as a full-time intern. This position does not offer housing or relocation assistance.

The weekly pay range for this role is:

$1,500—$1,900 USD
