Job summary

Formlabs is offering an SLS Print Process Internship in Somerville, MA, with a Winter/Spring 2027 term (January–April) and a full-time commitment. You will work onsite, build solutions, and analyze a wide range of variables across disciplines to improve print performance.

Applicants should have a hands-on mindset, familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks), and basic Python skills. A portfolio is strongly encouraged for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Push the capabilities of our SLS 3D printing platforms.
• Drive root cause analysis across mechanics, fluids, software, chemistry, optics, electronics, thermodynamics, and customer behavior.
• Design efficient experiments to tease out underlying behavior in a complex system.
• Tackle multi-disciplinary problems to improve print performance.
• Develop and commercialize solutions with real impact on customer prints.

The Print Optimization Team takes on the challenge of optimizing the intersection of hardware, software, and materials to deliver industry leading print performance. As an SLS Print Process Intern, you will be continuously using your problem solving skills to drive improved performance. We are customer focused, and the first step of tackling the problem is understanding what the performance boost we are trying to achieve, and how many customers will benefit. Will customers be able to print parts faster? More reliability? Will they be easier to post-process, or print more accurately?

The Job:

• Push the capabilities of our SLS 3D printing platforms

• Are hands-on and willing to cross discipline boundaries to solve a problem
• Comfortable working with CAD programs (ie SolidWorks)
• Basic computer programming (Python)
• Understand material properties and characterization
• Able to build DOE and custom tests
• Passionate about improving performance of 3D printers

Compensation

Interns at Formlabs are paid on a bi-weekly pay schedule. The pay range for this role will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization. This is a salaried role, so you will always be paid based on the assumed 40 hours per week as a full-time intern. This position does not offer housing or relocation assistance.

The weekly pay range for this role is: $1,300—$1,650 USD
