Job summary

Yahoo is seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer to own the architecture, performance, and reliability of our real-time collaboration platform. You will drive CRDT-based multi-user editing, ensure durable sync across systems, and mentor engineers while partnering with product, design, and AI tooling teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, building and operating large web platforms.
• Advanced mastery of TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and Node.js/Bun.
• Hands-on with real-time data models and CRDTs/OT.
• Strong PostgreSQL foundations and schema evolution.
• Diagnosing browser and server performance issues.
• Experience running production services with metrics, logs, and alerts.
• Daily use of AI coding agents and LLM tooling.
• Clear communication and leadership across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, scalability and uptime of real-time collaboration server and persistence layer.
• Design and harden multi-user editing with CRDTs ensuring no silent data loss.
• Architect AI tooling interfaces and MCP servers for safe AI-assisted development.
• Profile and optimize end-to-end rendering, frames, memory, and bundle sizes.
• Lead monorepo evolution, CI/CD pipelines, and testing regimes.
• Define SLOs, metrics, logging and real-time incident response.
• Partner on authentication, authorization, and access control across systems.
• Contribute to UI in React/TypeScript where performance matters.
• Set standards for AI workflow and governance across lifecycle.
• Mentor engineers and drive architectural reviews.
