Job summary

Yahoo is seeking a Principal Engineer to own the real-time collaboration platform, CRDT-based multi-user editing, and AI tooling across the stack. You will mentor engineers, define architecture, and ensure fast, durable systems with observability and strong security.

You will work on frontend and backend components in TypeScript/React, Node.js, and Postgres, balancing performance with reliability in a hybrid, flexible work setup.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, building, and operating production-scale web platforms.
• Advanced mastery of TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and Node.js/Bun.
• Hands-on with real-time data models, WebSockets, CRDTs/OT.
• Strong PostgreSQL foundations and schema evolution.
• Experience diagnosing browser and server performance issues.
• Experience with cloud/serverless, containers, CI pipelines, multiple environments.
• Experience using AI coding agents and LLM tooling in development.
• Clear communication and leadership in architectural decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, scalability, and uptime of real-time collaboration server.
• Design, harden, and evolve multi-user editing with CRDTs for reliable sync.
• Architect AI tooling interfaces and MCP servers for safe AI coding agents.
• Profile and optimize end-to-end performance of canvas rendering and servers.
• Lead monorepo evolution, CI/CD, testing, and preview to production environments.
• Define SLOs, metrics, logging, and real-time incident response.
• Security: authentication, authorization, and access control across systems.
• Contribute to UI in React/TypeScript where performance matters.
• Set standards for AI tooling, code review, and testing.
• Mentor engineers, drive architectural consensus, and governance.
