Job summary

ON.energy is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to originate and lead the design of new products for grid-scale energy storage systems. You will own requirements development, prototype leadership, and cross-functional coordination with vendors and leadership.

Based in Denver, CO or Houston, TX, you will drive early-stage prototyping, architect system topologies, and ensure robust design reviews and transition to product engineering while advancing the company’s mission in clean energy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in an engineering field; advanced degrees preferred.
• 10+ years in systems engineering for power/electronics hardware or energy storage.
• Experience leading design reviews and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Originate product concepts and define technical approach for new products.
• Develop and maintain system requirements and ensure traceability.
• Lead architecture definition, prototyping, and early validation activities.
• Coordinate with vendors for design proposals and qualification testing.
• Perform trade studies and risk-based prioritization across programs.
• Guide design transfer from R&D to product engineering and support deployment.
