Job summary

TSMC Washington in Vancouver, WA is seeking a senior software engineer focused on operations and optimization of MariaDB systems to scale our global cloud-native infrastructure. The role emphasizes performance, reliability, and efficient data pipelines across our data ecosystems.

You will lead in database optimization, work with Java/Python/Go/Rust, and partner with global teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions while leveraging Git/GitHub/GitLab for code collaboration and deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in CS/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of database operations and optimization with MariaDB.
• Proven track record of improving performance and scalability in complex DB environments.
• Experience in programming languages: Java, Python, Go, Rust, etc.
• At least 3 years in cloud computing (AWS, Azure, or GCP) focusing on DB workloads.
• 3+ years in a leadership role for database/system optimization projects.
• Hands-on with Git, GitLab, or GitHub.
• Excellent communication across global teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead efforts in optimizing MariaDB for performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Analyze and resolve operational challenges, ensuring continuous improvement for mission-critical systems.
• Guide teams in designing, implementing, and maintaining highly performant and optimized data pipelines.
• Collaborate with Software Engineers and Data Architects to improve system infrastructure through monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting MariaDB systems.
• Define and implement best practices for managing data systems, including backup, recovery, and high availability strategies.
• Lead cross-team discussions on operations, scalability, and architectural refinements for database and data warehouse systems.
• Contribute to the lifecycle of systems from conceptual design through implementation, deployment, and optimization.
• Mentor team members to ensure deep understanding of database and Lakehouse optimization techniques.
