Job summary

Elastic seeks a Principal Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch - Analytical Engine team. You will shape the ES|QL compute engine, define technical direction for interfaces and syntax, and drive data-intensive enhancements across distributed teams.

You will collaborate with product teams and partners, mentor engineers, and apply deep expertise in search, analytics, and Java to build scalable, fast software. This role is on-site in Mountain View with Elastic’s distributed culture.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading data-intensive engineering projects.
• Experience mentoring engineers and guiding technical decisions.
• Ability to define long-term technical vision and roadmaps.
• Hands-on with search/analytics APIs and modern Java.
• Strong understanding of data structures, concurrency, and algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Define, lead, and contribute to ES|QL data-intensive enhancements.
• Research features, data structures, and algorithms to guide the roadmap.
• Collaborate with partners and product teams to translate needs into a strategic plan.
• Provide technical vision for customer interfaces and language syntax.
• Contribute to discovery, design, and implementation across distributed teams.
