Job summary

HITT Contracting Inc. seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead AI-native development on real-world jobsite software. You will architect first-in-kind platforms, build with AI coding agents, and define patterns that scale across teams and projects.

You will recruit and mentor engineers, creating robust tooling, templates, and libraries to raise the entire practice’s technical bar, while delivering fast, reliable software for field environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including staff/principal level responsibilities.
• Expert, hands-on fluency with AI-assisted and agentic development tools and practices.
• Track record of shipping production software with modern stacks and CI/CD.
• Mentoring and upskilling engineers; introducing new tools and practices.
• Strong architectural judgment across rapid prototyping to production systems.
• Excellent communication for non-technical partners.
• Experience building software for field-based or operations environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build AI-native applications and agentic workflows end to end.
• Define patterns for agentic development, orchestration, and tool integrations.
• Establish testing, observability, and security practices for AI-enabled software.
• Prototype quickly, then harden into reliable products for jobsites and offices.
• Mentor engineers and help recruit skilled team members.
• Lead lean, agile teams and collaborate with project teams and field staff.
• Communicate architectural decisions clearly to engineers and executives.
