Job summary

Target is seeking a Principal Engineer for AI Platform, Forward Deployed Engineering and AI Builder Experience. You will provide technical leadership across platform engineering, product, architecture, and applications to accelerate AI initiatives at enterprise scale.

You will help design, implement, and operate AI-powered applications, including LLM-powered and agentic systems, while building reusable APIs, SDKs, and reference architectures for internal teams and external developers.

Qualifications

MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent experience.
8+ years designing, building, and operating large-scale software platforms in production.
Strong hands-on software engineering and production-grade system delivery.
Experience with AI applications including LLM-powered systems and tool integration.
Experience delivering developer-facing capabilities (APIs, SDKs, templates, tooling).

Responsibilities

Lead engineering for AI platform capabilities enabling deployment and operation of AI-powered products at scale.
Architect reusable APIs, SDKs, frameworks, and reference architectures for the AI builder ecosystem.
Provide technical leadership across platform engineering, product, and application teams.
Mentor senior engineers and help shape engineering standards and roadmap.
