Job summary

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is hiring for a senior/Staff-level software engineer to own end-to-end service delivery in a highly regulated, AI-assisted environment. You will architect, implement, and ship production-grade systems, enforce security and compliance, and drive telemetry and auditability across distributed services.

You will mentor engineers, contribute to architecture reviews, and work in a GitOps-driven pipeline using Kubernetes, Terraform, and modern observability.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
• 3+ years at Staff or Principal level
• Delivery experience in regulated environments (CMMC, FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001)
• Azure or Azure Government Cloud
• Legacy modernization — decomposing monolithic enterprise applications into services
• Hands-on delivery under CMMC, FedRAMP, SOC 2, or ISO 27001 with audit prep
• SBOM generation, artifact signing, and provenance attestation (SLSA or equivalent)
• Policy-as-code enforcement (OPA, Conftest, or equivalent) in delivery pipelines
• Observability instrumentation (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor)
• Distributed systems and event-driven architecture
• Database engineering depth across relational and non-relational stores

Responsibilities

• Ideation through design: turn ambiguous problems into technical direction and architecture
• Full stack implementation: frontend and backend services, APIs, data layers
• Test strategy and coverage: automated testing, unit/integration/end-to-end tests
• Delivery to production: containerize services, deploy via GitOps, manage manifests
• AI-augmented delivery: use agents to implement scope with guardrails and reviews
• Security and compliance as code: SAST/DAST, secrets, container scanning
• Auditability and evidence generation: structured audit logs and automated compliance artifacts
• Work in a CMMC Level 2 environment and ensure code provenance and access logging
• Production accountability: define health signals, incident response, remediation
• Technical leadership: mentor engineers and lead design reviews
