Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, seeks a Principal Product Manager to lead strategy and roadmap for embedding/reranking, vector database, and related capabilities. You will guide vector search direction, collaborate with engineering and research, and ensure offerings meet needs across organizations in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.

The role requires overseeing long-term goals, prioritizing features based on user feedback, and balancing recall, latency, and cost.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Master's degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
• 8+ years in product management, with significant time on technical infrastructure, databases, search, or ML/AI platforms.
• Good working knowledge of vector search fundamentals, embeddings, ANN indexing, similarity metrics, and hybrid retrieval.
• Working knowledge of generative models, model fine tuning, and document processing for large corpora.
• Track record of shipping developer- or infrastructure-facing products adopted at scale.

Responsibilities

• Conduct market research on search/vector databases and SOTA model research for unstructured data.
• Evaluate competitive landscape and develop user personas to guide features.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align product strategy with business goals.
• Establish long-term goals and milestones for vector use cases and unstructured data management.
• Own vision and multi-quarter roadmap for Elastic's vector database and core search use cases.
• Work with engineering and research on trade-offs; define metrics like recall, latency, index size, throughput, and TCO.
• Define unified strategy across embedding/reranking models and vector indexing; manage model lifecycle.
• Manage operating cadence and align research, cloud, and engineering priorities.
