Job summary

Frontline Education is seeking a Principal Engineer for Platform, Core Services, to lead the shared platform capabilities powering multiple product teams. You’ll guide architecture, drive design reviews, and stay hands-on through prototyping, reviews, and incident response.

You’ll collaborate with PMs, architects, QA, and UX to deliver scalable, secure, observable, and resilient services that support educators and administrators across our product ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ten+ years of professional software engineering experience at a senior technical leadership level.
• Experience leading technical execution for an engineering team or cross-functional initiative.
• Deep experience with distributed, cloud-native systems and API/microservices design.
• Experience with Node.js, NestJS, AWS, Docker, Kafka; frontend familiarity with React/TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Technical Lead for a pod delivering shared Core Services platform capabilities.
• Guide technical execution, design reviews, delivery coordination, and operational readiness.
• Remain hands-on with prototyping, coding reviews, troubleshooting, and incident support.
• Partner with Product Management to clarify problems, feasibility, and reusable platform solutions.
• Design and optimize cloud-native APIs, microservices, and data models.
• Improve observability, monitoring, resilience, security, and incident response.
