Job summary

Pantheon seeks a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership, shaping engineering strategy and best practices across our Collaborative Web Platform. You will stay hands-on while guiding architecture, reliability, and developer experience across multiple teams, balancing speed with safety.

You will mentor senior engineers, define platform boundaries, and drive decisions that influence product strategy, security, and operational excellence for real-time, multi‑tenant web publishing.

Qualifications

• 14+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience defining technical strategy for a complex product, platform, or distributed system.
• Strong systems thinking across frontend, backend, APIs, data, infrastructure, security, and operations.
• Experience with distributed, real-time, collaborative, or stateful systems.
• Demonstrated mentoring of senior engineers and influencing technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Define technical direction and architectural vision across real-time collaboration, APIs, data models, and editor tooling.
• Drive cross‑team engineering strategy, sequencing, and platform ownership decisions.
• Raise engineering quality with best practices for design, testing, deployment, and reliability.
• Build technical leverage by creating reusable patterns, references, and paved paths.
• Partner with product and customers to translate goals into phased delivery plans.
