Job summary

Vytalize Health is seeking a Principal Engineer to design, build, and operate a clinical decision support and API platform embedded in provider workflows. You will work with Data Eng, Product, Clinical Ops and EMR partners to enable real-time clinical insights via CDS Hooks and APIs.

You will own API contracts, security patterns, and data pipelines, while mentoring engineers and aligning with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

8+ years designing, building, and operating API platforms at scale.
3+ years with healthcare data integrations and interoperability standards (FHIR/HL7).
Strong REST API design, versioning, error handling, and auth patterns.
Deep understanding of healthcare data integrations and CDS Hooks/SMART on FHIR.
Experience defining API performance metrics and SLA monitoring.
Proficiency in Python, Java, Go or similar; reading code across languages.
Experience with cloud platforms and containerized services.
Collaborative work with cross-functional teams in healthcare environments.

Responsibilities

Own CDS Hook API contracts and evolution per SMART CDS Hooks specs.
Lead EMR integration for CDS Hook discovery/execution and card rendering.
Design, build, and maintain REST and event-driven APIs exposing clinical data and care content.
Establish API contracts, versioning, and deprecation policies for external consumers.
Implement and enforce API security patterns including OAuth 2.0 and access controls.
Design real-time data pipelines feeding CDS Hooks and APIs with low latency.
Develop QA/testing frameworks for CDS Hooks and APIs across EMR systems.
Define reliability metrics and SLAs for delivery and performance; balance tradeoffs.
Mentor teammates and document architectures and OpenAPI specs.
