Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in New York seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead performance engineering across platforms. You will set direction, tackle deep bottlenecks, and drive the strategy and roadmap for scalable performance. You will mentor engineers, build tools, and shape cross-team standards for high‑performance software.

You will work across browser to OS, with Java/Spring Boot, Kubernetes, and a focus on latency, throughput, and reliability in a demanding financial services environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive performance engineering experience (typically 12+ years) for high-traffic distributed systems.
• Deep hands-on expertise debugging performance problems in distributed systems, including JVM internals.
• Fluency in Java back-end and Node.js/React front-end ecosystems, with performance debugging best practices.
• Hands-on experience with Java/Spring Boot and Kubernetes, including EKS.
• Strong systems and cloud performance depth, Linux tooling, and OS-level troubleshooting under load.
• Expertise in workload modeling, latency analysis, and SLOs with error budgets.
• Experience with load/protocol testing tools and scripting in Java, Python, or TypeScript for automation.
• Observability with Dynatrace/OpenTelemetry, plus dashboarding in Grafana/Kibana.

Responsibilities

• Own the hardest cross-stack performance problems from browser to OS and establish standards.
• Define and enforce NFRs and SLOs across platform releases as the technical authority.
• Drive proactive performance engineering through bottleneck detection and capacity modeling.
• Build tooling and infrastructure to enable scalable performance testing across teams.
• Design automated performance test suites and environment-aware execution.
• Embed performance gates into CI/CD pipelines and monitor telemetry against SLOs.
• Architect and govern agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows with guardrails and reuse.
• Apply SDLC tooling knowledge to improve automation value at scale.
