Job summary

JPMorgan Chase is seeking aSenior Principal Software Engineer to lead performance engineering across distributed platforms. The role combines hands-on coding with strategy, defining NFRs/SLOs, embedding performance into CI/CD, and driving resiliency and capacity planning.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years in engineering with 10+ years in performance, deep Java/Spring Boot experience, and strong modeling, observability, and SRE collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of overall engineering experience with 10+ years in performance engineering for high-traffic distributed systems.
• Hands-on software engineering experience with Java/Spring Boot and Kubernetes (self-managed and EKS).
• Fluent with percentile-based SLOs and error budgets; strong modeling and statistics background.

Responsibilities

• Define and institutionalize NFRs and SLOs, including latency targets and error budgets.
• Drive proactive performance engineering through bottleneck detection and capacity modeling.
• Design, build, and maintain automated test suites for load, stress, soak, spike, and capacity scenarios.
• Embed performance gates into CI/CD pipelines and lead chaos/resiliency experiments.
