Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Palo Alto seeks a Principal Engineer for Developer Platform Engineering. You will own the technical strategy and execution for platform capabilities across 1,000+ services within a 1,000-engineer organization, shaping performance-first practices and guardrails.

You'll lead capacity analytics, automated testing pipelines, and AI-enabled development standards, partnering with senior leaders to raise standards and enable fast, reliable delivery at scale.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in scaling and performance engineering for large distributed systems.
• Proven ability to implement self-service platform capabilities and adoption playbooks.
• Strong background in Java/Spring Boot and modern front-end ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Define and own a portfolio-wide capacity evaluation methodology for 10x load scenarios.
• Build and guide a developer platform with self-service tooling and test harnesses.
• Set performance, capacity, and resiliency standards with SLOs and budgets.
• Design automated performance evaluation pipelines within CI/CD with regression checks.
• Establish frontend performance standards for backend-for-frontend architectures.
• Lead resiliency and chaos engineering to validate autoscaling under extreme load.
• Integrate production telemetry with performance signals for risk visualization.
• Coach teams on performance-first design and secure, auditable automation.
