Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. seeks a Principal Software Engineer in Performance Engineering to lead cross-stack performance across platforms, from browser to OS. You will set standards, mentor engineers, and build automated performance testing and tooling within the Payments Technology group.

You will tackle complex latency and throughput challenges, define SLOs, and drive proactive optimizations. This is a hands-on leadership role demanding deep technical expertise and the ability to influence

Qualifications

12+ years of performance engineering experience
Deep debugging of distributed systems at scale, JVM-focused
Proficiency in Java/Spring Boot and front-end tech like Node.js/React
Hands-on with Kubernetes and cloud environments
Strong observability and performance testing tooling knowledge
Experience with AI-enabled development practices and secure, scalable workflows
Ability to influence senior leaders and establish engineering standards

Responsibilities

Own cross-stack performance issues from browser to OS
Define and enforce NFRs and SLOs with latency targets and budgets
Lead proactive performance engineering through bottleneck detection and capacity modeling
Build scalable performance testing and automation tooling
Embed performance gates in CI/CD and develop production telemetry dashboards
Shape strategy and roadmaps, earning buy-in from senior stakeholders
Lead adoption of agentic AI-enabled development practices across teams
