Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer - Network to architect and scale our network services supporting Akamai Connected Cloud. You will partner with software, operations, and product teams to improve reliability, performance, and observability of distributed infrastructure.

You will lead engineering initiatives, mentor peers, and drive standards for deployments, automation, and documentation.

Qualifications

• 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Experience in a Site/Network Reliability Engineering, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, or DevOps role with large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, load balancing and firewall concepts.
• Advanced proficiency with configuration management tools (Ansible, Salt Stack, Chef, Puppet or similar).
• Experience with Linux networking and open source networking software (FRR, Bird, goBGP).
• Experience developing applications, contributing to codebases, code reviews, and scripting (Python, Bash, Go, Rust).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD or similar).

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and support solutions that foster efficient and streamlined processes.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor, driving code quality standards and architectural decisions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on deployments and update documentation accordingly.
• Build, test, and design automation tools (Bash, Python, Slack bots) and work with network developers.
• Define SLOs for network infrastructure within Akamai Connected Cloud for high availability and performance.
• Collaborate with support, operations, and engineering to troubleshoot complex network problems; participate in on-call rotations.
