Job summary

Akamai's Compute Site Reliability Engineering team is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to boost reliability, performance, and scale of our compute products and platforms. You will troubleshoot across Linux, networking, and distributed services, and build automation to reduce toil and outages.

You will work at the intersection of systems, networking, and software, participating in on-call rotations and driving incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term improvements with

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience with Linux and networking including routing, DNS, firewalls, TCP/IP, and L7 traffic management.
• Proficiency in Python or Go.
• Experience with observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, ELK/OpenSearch.
• Experience with infrastructure automation: Terraform, Ansible, Salt.
• Familiarity with container tech: Docker/Podman and orchestration: Kubernetes or Nomad.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting complex issues across Linux systems, networking, and distributed services.
• Building software and automation to reduce operational toil and improve reliability.
• Developing AI-assisted tooling to accelerate incident investigation and pattern identification.
• Using data analysis and network diagnostics to drive performance improvements.
• Establishing and improving monitoring, SLIs, and SLOs for critical services.
• Participating in root cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
• Collaborating with engineering teams to improve system design and deployment safety.
• Participating in on-call rotation and leading incident response and post-incident improvements.
