Job summary

Akamai Technologies seeks a Principal Site Reliability Engineer - Network to design, build and operate reliable network infrastructure that powers Akamai Connected Cloud. You will shape scalable routing software, collaborate across software development, operations and product teams, and lead efforts to improve reliability at global scale.

You will mentor engineers, define SLOs, drive automation with Bash, Python, and Go, and participate in on-call rotations to resolve complex network issues

Qualifications

• 12+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent.
• Experience in Site or Network Reliability Engineering, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, or DevOps with large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, load balancing and firewall concepts.
• Advanced proficiency with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Salt Stack, Chef, Puppet, or similar.
• Experience developing applications, contributing to codebases, conducting code reviews, and writing scripts using Python, Bash, Go, or Rust.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Github Actions, ArgoCD, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Architecting, building and supporting solutions that foster efficient and streamlined processes.
• Serving as a subject matter expert and mentor to team members, driving code quality standards and providing architectural leadership.
• Collaborating on standards and processes for deployments and updating documentation accordingly.
• Building/testing/designing automation tools (Bash scripts, Python programs, Slack bots) and working with network developers.
• Defining SLOs for network infrastructure within Akamai Connected Cloud to ensure high availability and performance.
• Collaborating with support, operations, and engineering teams to investigate and troubleshoot complex network-related problems including on-call rotations.
