Full-Time | Senior Individual Contributor / Technical Leader
About the Role
We are partnering with a leading advanced materials and manufacturing organization seeking a Principal Metallurgist to provide high-level technical leadership across alloy development, process optimization, and complex problem-solving initiatives.
This role will serve as a key technical expert, supporting internal operations, customers, and cross-functional project teams while driving innovation and continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced technical expertise supporting production, customers, and internal teams
- Lead root cause investigations and disposition of non-conforming material (RMRs, customer claims)
- Drive alloy development and process improvement initiatives
- Lead and support cross-functional project teams, ensuring on-time delivery and budget alignment
- Apply statistical methods and experimental design to solve complex metallurgical challenges
- Utilize SPC, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools to identify inefficiencies and reduce variation
- Communicate technical risks and provide recommendations to leadership
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff
- Provide technical training and education to internal teams and external customers
- Identify emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities for innovation
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in metallurgical or materials engineering within manufacturing
- Strong expertise in:
- metallurgical principles and processing
- alloy development and performance
- metallurgical testing and failure analysis
- Experience working in mill, heavy manufacturing, or industrial environments
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and influence cross-functional teams
- Strong background in statistical analysis, experimental design, and process optimization
- Familiarity with SPC, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to interface with customers and leadership
- Manufacturing / plant environment (mill or production setting)
