Job description

We are seeking a Metallurgist to join a quality-focused team within a heavy manufacturing and steel production environment. This role will play an important part in improving product quality, supporting process improvements, solving production issues, and ensuring products consistently meet customer requirements.

The Metallurgist will work closely with the Melt Shop, Rolling Mill, Quality, and Operations teams to identify quality trends, investigate root causes, develop corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement throughout the facility.

This is an excellent opportunity for a metallurgist or engineering professional who enjoys being hands‑on, working directly with production teams, analyzing data, solving problems, and seeing improvements implemented on the plant floor.

What You’ll Do
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across melting and rolling processes.
  • Partner with Melt Shop and Rolling Mill personnel to identify and resolve quality and process issues.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze quality and process data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support product and process development initiatives.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining processes that meet customer specifications and requirements.
  • Investigate customer quality claims and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support quality systems, specification limits, product holds, inventory‑related quality issues, and production setup requirements.
  • Utilize statistical process control and other quality tools to monitor and improve processes.
  • Support training and knowledge‑sharing initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Work with operators, technicians, engineers, and leadership to understand problems and implement practical solutions.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor and develop an understanding of production processes and equipment.
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is a problem solver who is comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and interacting with people at all levels of an organization. You should be curious, analytical, detail‑oriented, and willing to ask questions and get directly involved in understanding how processes work.

We’re particularly interested in candidates who have:

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Experience performing root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • The ability to analyze data and identify process or quality trends.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with production operators and technical personnel.
  • A hands‑on approach to manufacturing problem solving.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • The confidence to address critical issues directly and professionally.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across Quality, Operations, Engineering, and Production.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Experience in the steel industry, particularly steelmaking, Melt Shop, or Rolling Mill operations.
  • Experience in metals manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, or another metals‑intensive production environment.
  • Internship or hands‑on manufacturing experience for early‑career candidates.
  • Experience with SQL, Power BI, ibaAnalyzer, or similar data analysis and process monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with chemical analysis equipment or metallurgical testing.
  • Experience with statistical process control and quality improvement methodologies.
Communication:

Clearly communicate technical information and listen effectively to operators, engineers, and leadership.

Problem Solving:

Identify problems, analyze relevant information, determine root causes, and develop practical solutions.

Leadership & Accountability:

Take ownership of responsibilities and have the confidence to address issues directly when necessary.

Teamwork:

Build effective working relationships across Quality, Production, Engineering, and Operations.

Organization:

Prioritize competing responsibilities and manage projects and investigations effectively.

Continuous Improvement:

Look beyond immediate problems to identify opportunities to improve processes, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Safety First

Safety is a fundamental responsibility of every employee. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices, housekeeping standards, and established safety policies and procedures. You will be expected to actively promote and support a safe working environment while performing all job responsibilities.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Make a direct impact on steelmaking and rolling processes.
  • Work hands‑on with production and operations teams rather than being limited to a laboratory or office environment.
  • Gain broad exposure to Melt Shop, Rolling Mill, quality systems, process improvement, and customer quality.
  • Work on meaningful root‑cause and continuous improvement projects.
  • Opportunity to grow your technical expertise in a challenging manufacturing environment.
  • Relocation assistance and temporary housing support may be available for qualified relocating candidates.

If you're a metallurgist or engineering professional who enjoys solving real manufacturing problems and working directly with production teams, we'd like to hear from you.
