Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Solid Rocket Motor Engineering Team. The role involves designing, integrating, and analyzing mechanical subsystems for solid rocket motors, including motor cases, nozzles, insulation, and structural interfaces.

The position supports remote work or placement at our Huntsville, AL facility (plus Niceville FL or Hampton, AR).

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree and 8–10 years of engineering experience.
• Engineering degree required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge, skills & abilities: Oral and written communication skills, ability to meet deadlines, work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate mechanical components for solid rocket motor systems.
• Create CAD models, drawings, and specifications for motor cases, nozzles, insulation, joints, and interfaces.
• Perform detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components; size insulation and thermal protection systems.
• Validate models with test data and develop predictive ablation/erosion models.
• Present findings in design reviews and prepare reports.
