Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Solid Rocket Motor Engineering Team. The role focuses on design, development, and integration of mechanical components for solid rocket motors, with CAD models, drawings, and specifications for motor cases, nozzles, insulation, joints, and interfaces.

The position can be remote or based at Huntsville, AL; Niceville, FL; or Hampton, AR.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree and 8–10 years of engineering experience.
• Engineering degree required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Bachelor's degree preferred; strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components.
• Sizes internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators.
• Validates models with test data; develops predictive ablation and erosion models.
• Defines sub-scale tests for material properties of insulators and ablators.
• Evaluates materials and thermal protection system solutions for solid rocket motors.
• Creates reports and presentations documenting analysis and supporting work.
• Presents findings to peers and customers in design reviews.
