American Electric Power seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer Principal to drive mechanical design basis for gas, coal, and renewable plant retrofit and new-generation projects. You will coordinate with AE and EPC partners, prepare specs, and support procurement, construction, and startup activities across rotating and static equipment.

Attention to safety and regulatory compliance with ASME/API standards is required, along with strong CAD/FEA/CFD tools proficiency.

Qualificações

• 8+ years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited program.
• Or 6 years of related engineering experience with a Master’s or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• PE license in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico preferred unless waived by EVP.
• Experience in mechanical engineering for power generation projects (gas, coal, renewables).
• Proficiency with CAD and engineering calculation tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, MATLAB, SolidWorks, PDMS/AVEVA).

Responsabilidades

• Develop and document mechanical design basis for plant equipment.
• Review, comment on, and approve mechanical designs, drawings, and calculations with AE/EPC teams.
• Prepare and review technical and procurement specifications and RFx deliverables.
• Interface with OEMs during RFx and procurement to confirm technical compliance, lead times, warranties, and submittals.
• Provide construction, commissioning, and startup support.
• Perform analyses (stress, vibration, thermal, piping) to validate designs.
• Ensure compliance with codes (ASME, API, ANSI, NFPA, IEEE, local codes).
• Coordinate with electrical, I&C, civil, and operations stakeholders for O&M docs and lifecycle cost assessments.
• Promote safe design practices and site safety.
