Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Thermal Projects to provide technical leadership for the mechanical design of thermal power generation facilities across development, construction and operation. You will oversee third‑party engineering, review designs, prepare specifications and support procurement and testing.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in power generation or major capital projects.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, drawings, and vendor documents.
• Experience with thermal power generation facilities (gas turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, etc.).
• Experience with third-party engineering oversight and design review.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience with Procore is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and support engineering for gas and steam turbines, HRSGs, and related systems.
• Coordinate interfaces across civil, electrical, mechanical, controls, and environmental disciplines.
• Conduct technical studies, equipment selection, and value engineering.
• Support procurement through technical bid evaluations and FAT inspections.
• Provide field engineering support and ensure conformance with documents.
• Mentor engineers and lead technical evaluations of new technologies.
• Drive safety and quality in project execution.
