Job summary

American Electric Power in the United States seeks a highly experienced Civil/Structural Engineer Principal to oversee design criteria for gas, coal, renewable, and new-generation power projects. You will manage site development, foundations, structures, and utilities while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams across EPCs, OEMs, and internal stakeholders.

The role requires strong technical writing, communication, and asset management experience, with a PE license preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (or waiver possible).
• Experience with power plant civil/structural design and asset lifecycle planning.

Responsibilities

• Develop civil/structural design criteria, standards, and specifications.
• Perform analyses, calculations, drawings, and construction deliverables.
• Support site grading, drainage, foundations, structures, roads, utilities.
• Coordinate interfaces across geotechnical, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and I&C teams.
• Review loads, anchorage, and installation constraints; ensure code compliance.
• Provide construction support: RFIs, inspections, QA/QC, shop drawing reviews.
