Job summary

Citi is seeking a hands-on Principal Engineer to design, build, and evolve high-quality software products at global scale. You will mentor engineers, drive technical excellence, and contribute across multiple teams, delivering on sprint commitments with full-stack ownership.

As a Principal Java Engineer, you will shape architecture, lead by example in modern cloud-based development, and promote best practices.

Qualifications

• 10+ years software engineering experience delivering production-grade Java applications.
• Cloud-native development with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
• Experience designing microservices and REST/GraphQL APIs.
• Strong Java frameworks: Spring Boot, Quarkus, Micronaut, or Vert.x.
• Practice of unit testing, automation, and code reviews.
• Experience with CI/CD tools in cloud or on-prem environments.
• Familiarity with agile/scrum practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-quality full-stack features using Java across multiple agile teams.
• Collaborate with principal engineers to shape system architecture for scalability and resilience.
• Deliver against sprint commitments and participate in planning, reviews, and ceremonies.
• Provide technical guidance to engineering teams and promote best practices.
• Evaluate new technologies and make adoption recommendations to improve product outcomes.
• Partner with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
