Job summary

Citi is seeking a Senior Backend Principal Developer Vice President to own the backend architecture powering a large digital experience platform serving hundreds of thousands of clients. You will design high‑performance services in Java, shape architectural strategy, and mentor senior engineers to raise technical bar.

This role offers a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. You will collaborate with product, front‑end, infrastructure and security teams to deliver

Qualifications

• 6–10 years in backend software development with enterprise-scale architectures
• Expert-level Java and production-grade code experience
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and RESTful APIs
• Experience implementing IAM solutions (OAuth2, OpenID Connect) and fine-grained authorization
• Cloud-native development on AWS/GCP with containerization and orchestration
• Relational and NoSQL databases experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-performance, fault-tolerant backend services and APIs in Java at enterprise scale
• Define and evolve backend architecture for a large federated platform
• Implement end-to-end security controls across backend components
• Engineer performance optimizations through caching, async processing, and data access patterns
• Architect integrations connecting content providers via HTTPS interfaces
• Mentor senior engineers through code reviews and architectural guidance
• Lead root cause analysis for production incidents and ensure operational excellence
• Collaborate with product, front-end, infra, and security teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
