The Doctors Company Information Technology team has an opportunity for a Principal IT Business Analyst. This is a remote opportunity or may report to one of our offices depending on the final candidate’s location from the company's offices.

Position Mission

The Principal Business Analyst is a highly experienced IT professional whose role is pivotal in bridging the communication gaps between IT and non-IT stakeholders. By balancing technical expertise with clear communication and strategic alignment, they play a crucial role in driving the success of IT initiatives. They serve as an essential liaison, ensuring that all parties involved are aligned on requirements, goals, and strategies. A significant responsibility of the Principal Business Analyst is to comprehend the requirements put forth by business stakeholders and accurately translate them for development teams. This involves detailed analysis and documentation, ensuring that the development teams can work efficiently towards delivering the desired outcomes. For complex requirement engagements, the Principal Business Analyst actively engages with business stakeholders to align initiatives with the organization's strategic goals. Within the analyst team, the Principal Business Analyst promotes best practices by establishing and disseminating guidelines. They ensure that all team members adhere to the most efficient and effective methods for their work, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. The Principal Business Analyst manages the library of documentation for various solutions and systems. They ensure that all documentation is thorough and up to date, this documentation helps in maintaining consistency and reliability across the organization's IT operations. In addition to their analytical responsibilities, the Principal Business Analyst may manage small projects within the team. This involves overseeing project timelines, coordinating efforts among team members, and ensuring that deliverables are met on schedule and within scope

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Business Management, Information Technology, or Computer Science preferred.
  • Three (3) years insurance industry experience or work in related industry (such as healthcare, financial, or banking).
  • Three (3) years project management experience within complex organizations, including directing the work of others, managing schedules and project deliverables, application development, QA, and testing.
  • Five (5) years information technology experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading scrum or agile-based teams.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in IT application development.
  • Demonstrated vendor management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in communication, organization, project management, negotiation, planning, budgeting, and professional and organizational development.
  • Duck Creek application development experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Leadership / Staff Development

  • Coach, mentor, and motivate QA and System Analyst team and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their tasks/projects while supporting the overall team to identify and achieve project goals.
  • Hold staff accountable to follow cultural values and norms.
  • Work with the Growth Services Director to define and monitor roles and responsibilities of the Analyst team.
  • Establish and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for the functional area.
  • Mature the Agile and Scrum mindset in the department.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of standards and best practices for Analyst team members.

Analysis, Design & Execution

  • Provide guidance and direction to technical teams based on application development expertise.
  • Envision and lead project initiatives and strategies designed to enhance TDC's technology.
  • Implement reliable, scalable, secure, and high-performing technology systems for smooth business operations.
  • Establish and maintain procedures and standards for end-to-end technology system management.
  • Identify trends and future needs for technical skills, methodologies, and standards needed to execute department projects and strategy.
  • Define and influence project vision & strategy that align with corporate goals.
  • Consult with users, project teams, and department teams to determine software and system functionality to meet business system needs.
  • Provide solutions: analyze, design, and document modifications for computer systems and programs including requirements documentation, prototypes, mock-ups, and system documentation.
  • Develop overall Test Strategy plan and monitor execution of the plan and results for accuracy and consistency.
  • Manage system/user documentation on software functionality and usage.
  • Participate in Incident/Crisis Management; including accessing impact, determining or facilitating workarounds and communicating to impacted parties.

Project Management / Task Management

  • Follow department project management practices, processes, methodologies, and metrics.
  • Define projects, identify expected outcomes, establish timelines, and work with the leadership team to assign project staff.
  • Develop Project/Program Communication Strategy for IT as well as Business.
  • Prepare reports detailing project status and communicate updates to Leadership and stakeholders as defined in the communication strategy.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within quality standards, and in compliance with design specifications.
  • Monitor and manage progress against the plan and report results to Senior Leadership.
  • Oversee the execution of an IT solution in accordance with contractually established terms and conditions.
  • Authorize and coordinate the migration of application changes, enhancements, and fixes between testing and production environments.
  • Perform post-implementation project reviews for an assessment on project achievements, results, and customer satisfaction to build the business further.
  • Track system feature/function updates as assigned, coordinate with business, developers, Project Manager, and others as appropriate.
  • Estimate tasks required for business requirements or quality assurance, track progress against estimates, and report status.
  • Design, develop, and propose a plan to implement new/modified IT products and services in conjunction with other departments.
  • Lead a team or committee to support the implementation and execution of the identified plan.
  • Train system users on software use and assist in training other analysts on development and analysis tools.

Delivery Excellence and Customer Service

  • Requirements were delivered on time per specifications.
  • Project deliveries maintained a balance of scope, schedule, and cost along with a strong focus on quality and the achievement of business outcomes.
  • Maximize performance while upholding and encouraging behaviors consistent with TDC’s mission & values.
  • Communicate company values, beliefs, and norms to team members on an ongoing basis.
  • Serve as a role model for company values.
  • Communicate regularly with business partners to ensure user satisfaction.

Other Duties As Assigned

  • Available for all duties, accept delegated tasks readily, and complete assigned duties as directed.

Salary Range: $119,329 - $139,217

Compensation varies based on skills, knowledge, and education. We consider factors such as specialized skills, depth of knowledge in the field, and educational background to ensure fair and competitive pay.
