Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Principal Security Engineer to join the InfraSec team, protecting GPU clusters, multi-cloud infrastructure, data centers, and service meshes. You will set technical direction and drive high-impact security programs spanning hardware to Kubernetes, with a focus on durable controls at OpenAI scale.

You will mentor engineers, lead threat modeling, and collaborate across orgs to improve security posture while maintaining reliability and velocity.

Qualifications

• Experience building and securing large-scale infrastructure across multiple layers.
• Strong security judgment and risk-based decision making.
• Proven ability to drive cross-org initiatives end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end security outcomes for critical infrastructure areas with multi-quarter strategy and delivery.
• Design and implement security controls across hardware, firmware, OS, Kubernetes, networks, and CI/CD.
• Lead cross-functional programs to deploy security enhancements while balancing reliability and velocity.
• Take a generalist approach to security controls, adapting to evolving challenges.
• Lead threat modeling and design reviews for major infrastructure changes.
• Mentor and elevate engineers across InfraSec and partner teams to strengthen security culture.
