Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Infrastructure Security (InfraSec) team. This role focuses on building foundational security services for OpenAI’s infrastructure, including auth systems, proxies, and key management across GPU clusters and multi-cloud environments.

You will design and ship scalable security facilities, partner with engineers to protect model training and deployment, and develop automation to detect and mitigate risks at scale.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering skills in Python, Go, Rust, or C/C++.
• Experience building or operating security infrastructure (auth services, proxies, key-management).
• Deep understanding of security principles and vulnerabilities.
• Expertise integrating security across multi-cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Familiarity with container security (Kubernetes, service meshes) and modern auth standards (OIDC, mTLS, SPIFFE).

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement production-grade security services across hardware, OS, Kubernetes, networks, and CI/CD.
• Partner with infra and research engineers to embed security into high-performance compute clusters.
• Develop automation and detection tooling to identify and mitigate risks in large-scale cloud and on-prem environments.
• Lead initiatives like line-speed encryption, machine identity, and network isolation.
• Participate in design reviews and threat models to ensure secure, reliable systems.
