Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Infrastructure Security team. You will design and build foundational security services essential to OpenAI’s GPU clusters, multi‑cloud infrastructure, and datacenters. The role emphasizes reliability, scalability, and secure software craftsmanship.

You will partner with cross‑functional teams to embed security into high‑performance compute environments, automate risk mitigation, and advance protection across cloud and on‑prem systems.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering skills with experience shipping high‑reliability distributed services.
• Experience building or operating critical security infrastructure (auth services, proxies, key management).
• Deep understanding of security principles and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement production‑grade security services (auth, proxies, key management).
• Partner with infra and research engineers to embed security into high‑performance compute clusters.
• Develop automation and detection tooling for large‑scale cloud and on‑prem environments.
• Drive initiatives such as line‑speed encryption, machine identity, and network isolation.
• Lead or participate in threat modeling and design reviews.
